Laura Dutt, Founder and Principal
PathForward Executive Coaching, LLC
Through my own professional experiences, I’ve learned that becoming the best version of oneself is a lifelong journey, not a race with a finish line. And to do this best requires a desire to learn and grow, intentionality, a strong support system, and resources. This mindset shapes how I approach my executive coaching practice. I’ve seen firsthand how stepping into discomfort, tackling challenges head-on, and embracing new experiences can lead to meaningful personal and professional growth. That’s why I coach. I have a passion for supporting talented professionals as they move into leadership positions and are challenged in new and different ways.
As the founder of PathForward Executive Coaching LLC, I help leaders develop their skills, navigate challenges, and refine their leadership style towards greater impact. I create an environment for open, honest conversations where leaders can think strategically, reflect and gain perspective, and enhance their leadership approach. Leadership can be isolating at times. The phrase “it can be lonely at the top” is a lived experience for many. Executive coaching allows the leader to be seen and heard without concern for judgment, and to be honest and vulnerable to where they are in their leadership journey. When an organization gives the gift of executive coaching to their team, it reinforces their value and sends a clear message that they are supported towards their continued success.
With over 20 years in the professional services industry, most recently as the Chief Talent Officer at Benesch, I’ve had the privilege of working with high-performing lawyers as they build their practice, step into leadership roles, navigate change, and gain clarity in times of uncertainty. I’ve also worked alongside other C-Suite professionals as they scale their teams and manage performance for optimal effectiveness. Regardless of the work in front of me, my goal remains the same: ensuring those I work with feel supported in a way that leads to success for themselves and the people they lead.
Some of my leadership experience includes:
Built my team from two to 15+ professionals, including building out multiple business units and developing team members to position them for promotion opportunities;
Successfully expanded into new markets through organic growth – identified, recruited, onboarded, and integrated top talent in Chicago, San Francisco, and New York City;
Tripled the size of the lawyer population at Benesch through both lateral recruiting and scaling the summer associate program to right-size junior associate support for the firm;
Led the lateral integration efforts to outpace the industry retention statistics – 85% retention rate for lateral talent over five (5) years versus the industry average of 50-60%;
Established a pipeline program for future leaders; and
Presented at multiple rainmaker summits.
My academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from John Carroll University and a Master of Labor Relations and Human Resources from Cleveland State University. I’ve completed executive coach training through the Coachnet Coaching Certification Program (now Fluxify) and hold a Foundations in Coaching Certificate from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. In addition, I have a Mental Health First Aid Certificate from ALA.
These experiences, combined with my professional background and passion for supporting leaders to be their best, have led me to a full-time executive coaching career centered around leadership development. PathForward Executive Coaching LLC serves to support high-performing lawyers in elevating their leadership capacity, enhancing performance for themselves and those they lead, and making a lasting impact.
On a personal note, my husband and I live in Cleveland, OH, with our three children and two dogs. While finding an activity we all enjoy—aside from Mario Kart—can be a challenge, vacations bring smiles all around. We love exploring new places, time in the sun and snow, and shared experiences with family and friends. When I carve out time for myself, I’m reading, exercising, enjoying nature, or playing pickleball—it’s popular for a reason!
